Qual estado está representado na única estrela acima da frase ORDEM E PROGRESSO na bandeira do Brasil?

Qual estado está representado na única estrela acima da frase ´´Ordem e Progresso`` na bandeira do Brasil?

É o estado do Pará.

Are there countries with the same flag?

Are there countries with the same flag?

Well, maybe not exactly equal, but too similar! There are countries with the same design of flag, sometimes the difference is just the size, but the draws are the same. But how to identify them separatedly? Only if we put one beside the other to compare.

See below a lot of flags even not equal, but too similar?

The flag of the Asian country, Indonesia, and of the second smallest country of the world, located in Europe, Monaco, follow the same pattern of colour:

Flag of Indonesia                             Flag of Monaco

See also the flags of Poland, European country, and Singapore, Asian country, in comparison with the flags of Monaco and Indonesia:

Flag of Poland                                 Flag of Singapore

There are countries that had equal flags in the past, but today have different ones. Liechtenstein and Haiti discouvered that had identic flags during the Olimpic Games of 1936, in Germany, in the ocasion, Liechtensteiners decided to include a crown, in homage to the principate on the left superior corner of the blue stripe of the flag, Haiti remained with the flag intact, only in 1986, the country added the national coat of arms in the centre of the country's flag.

Ancient flag of both Haiti and Liechtenstein

Current flag of Liechtenstein            Current flag of Haiti

Below we have the flags of Chad, African country, and of Romania, European country. One tip to identify the flag of Romania, to not confuse it with the Chad's one, is that Romania is member of the European Union, so, it is probable that always the Romanian flag be hoisted beside a flag of the European Union in embassies, governamental or international bodies around the world.(Not always this will happen, but you have this tip to consider)

Flaf of Chad                         Flag of Romania

Flag of the European Union

See other flags that are also too similar to the Chad's and Romania's ones. The flags of two European countries, Moldova and Andorra.

Flag of Moldova                                Flag of Andorra

*Curiosity: Beyond Moldova's flag to have a lot of similarities with Romania's flag, one borders the other and both speak the same language, Romanian (In some ancient books it is found that in Romania they speak Romanian and in Moldova they speak moldovan, but they were two languages in a diasystem, that is, they were the same language, maybe with very little differences, but the countries gave own nomination to it, until 2013, when Moldova decided to change the constitution, substituting the term ´´Molvovan`` by the same name of the neighbour country ´´Romanian``)

See below more similar flags of European countries:

Flag of Slovenia                                  Flag of Slovakia

The following flags can also be compared with the flags above:

Flag of Russia                            Flag of Serbia

Still talking about striped flags on the horizontal; with the colours blue, white and red; of European nations, see:

Flag of the Netherlands / Holland       Flag of Luxembourg

The Dutch and the Luxembourgish flags are very similar, what varies is the size and the tonality of the colours, but the incredible is that the flag o Luxembourg was not inspired by the flag of the Netherlands / Holland, but by the flag of France.

Flag of France

The French flag is on the superior left side of some flags of some of its dependences.

Flag of French Southern and Antarctic Lands               Flag of the Wallis e Futuna Islands

Soon I will publish about former French colonies that also had the flag of France on the superior left side of the flag in the past.

The flags of Croatia, European country, and Paraguay, South American country, do not scape of the comparasons. Like the flags of the Netherlands / Holland and Luxembourg, they also have the same style, but with the addition of the coat of arms of the countries in the middle of the flag?

Flag of Croatia                          Flag of Paraguay

Continueing the subject matter, see below the following American countries located in Central America?

Flag of Nicaragua                          Flag of El Salvador

Among them, there is another, Honduras, with the same blue and white stripes?

Flag of Honduras

Still in America, but this time, South America:

Flag of Colombia                            Flag of Ecuador

The Venezuelan flag is not far of comparison with the ones above.

Flag of Venezuela

And also in South America, with a foot in North America. The flag of the South American country, Chile, does not have another national flag similar to it, but is too confused with the flag of the state of the United States of America, Texas.

Flag of Chile                              Flag of Texas (USA)

Back to Central America, we have a country and a dependence of the United States:

Flag of Cuba                       Flag of Puerto Rico (USA)

And talking about the United States, the own country has a flag similar to the flag an African country, Liberia:

Flag of the United States of America                  Flag of Liberia

And if we consider the red and white flags, and a blue square on the superior left side of the flag; we have also another flag to mention, the flag of Malaysia, country located in the Southeast Asia:

  Flag of Malaysia

Well, still looking at the Malay flag, Invite you to come back in the begining to take a look at the Singaporean flag, before we continue, now talking about flags of a moon and a star:

Flag of Turckey                               Flag of Tunisia

Two too similar, are not they? Turckey above the Mediterranean Sea in Europe and Asia, and Tunisia down this sea, in Africa.

Going on with 2 more flags with a moon and a star, both use the colours green and white, in the Angelian there is also the red just like in the flags of Turckey, Tunisia, Malaysia and Singapore:

Flag of Argelia                               Flag of Pakistan

Argelia in Africa, on the side of Tunisia and Pakistan in the South of Asia, near of the next country we are going to talk about, Burma, that also has the colour green and a white star.

Near the Southeast Asia, in the South of the continent, Burma, has a flag that makes us to remind the flag of the European country Lithuania:

Flag of Burma                       Flag of Lithuania

Another comparation also using horizontally striped flags with the colours yellow, green and red. A country of America and a country of Africa:

Flag of Bolivia                                  Flag of Ghana

Strolling around the Nordic countries, in Europe, we have:

Flag of Iceland                                Flag of Norway

Still in the Nordic Europe, we have some dependences that can be compared wiht the flags above:

Flag of the Aland Islands (Finland)                 Faroe Islands (Denmark)

Other Nordic countries' flags also have their similarities. Compare the Sweden's with the Aland Islands' flag, and the Faroe Islands's with the flag of Finland.

Flag of Sweden                                Flag of Finland

We also have the opposite of the Faroe Islands relating to the colours white and red, without mention to the colour blue. And that is not far to be compared with the flags of Sweden and Finland. Here is the flag of Denmark, one of the oldest countries of the world.

Flag of Denmark

Still in Europe, the Montenegrin flag looks like the Albanian flag, two neighbours with similar flags:

Flag of Albania                            Flag of Montenegro

In Asia, it looks like the creators of the South Korean flag had as base the flag of Japan, but added a little more of details in the design:

Flag of Japan                             Flag of South Korea

Meanwhile, in Africa:

Flag of Mali                                    Flag of Guinea

Still in the same continent:

Flag of Cameroon                               Flag of Senegal

Going on a tour in the Middle East, we have:
(Just remembering that Egypt has part of its territory in the Saharan Africa and another part in the Middle East, in Asia.)

Flag of Yemen                                   Flag of Syria

Flag of Iraq                                   Flag of Egypt

Passing by the Holy Land and arriving in the Saharan Africa again:

Flag of Jordan                              Flag of Palestine

Flaf of Western Sahara

Flaf of the only coastal Jordanian city, Aqaba

Rounding around the Sub-Saharan Africa, the flag of Sudan is not to different of the ones above, and it is worth coming back a little above and compare it with the flags of Yemen, Syria, Iraq and Egypt, just takes the green triangle out and check the coulour of the stripes:

Flag of Sudan

The flag of South Sudan is not too different of the ones above as well:

Flag of South Sudan

Before leaving South Sudan, take a look at the stripes of the country's flag and the stripes of the flag of Kenya, its neighbour, also located in the Sub-Saharan Africa:

Flag of Kenya

Still in the Middle East, on the banks of the Persian Gulph:

First two that reminds us a little the ones above:

Flag of the United Arab Emirates                    Flag of Kuwait

And two almost identical:

Flag of Bahrain                                      Flag of Qatar

The Qatari flag was created with the same colour of the flag of Bahrain, but the first one faded under in the sun and the creator decided to maintain the new colour, the maroon, because he liked it more then the original one.

Now is the time to compare a European country with an American one, it is just missing a coat of arms in the middle of the first flag.

Flag of Italy                                   Flag of Mexico

Still in reference to the flag above, take a look at the flag of Nigeria, African country, and the flag of Peru, American country. Maybe if with mix both we can make an Italian flag or a Mexican flag if we add a coat of arms:

Flag of Nigeria                                   Flag of Peru

Taking advantage of the opportunity of to be talking about three colours flags, divided in vertical lines and the green colour being one of these 3 colours. See below the flag of Ireland, European country, and the flag of Ivory Coast (Côte d'Ivoire), African country. What if we put one of them upside down?

Flag of Ireland                  Flag of Ivory Coast (Côte d'Ivoire)

Compare now the flags of Costa Rica, Central American country, and Thailand, country of the Southeast Asia. Pay attention to the colours of the stripes, they just changed the colour of the boards with the middle colour and added a coat of arms in the Costa Rican flag:

Flag of Costa Rica                            Flag of Thailand

It is worth it to analize the North Korean flag as well in comparison wiht the flag of Costa Rica, once both are divided in horizontal stripes when the 1st is blue, the 2nd is white, the 3rd is red, the 4th is white and the 5th is blue. Besides that, both have a symbol inside a circle located on the right of the red stripe:

Flag of North Korea

To finish the post, after rounding the entire world, let's end up the trip in Oceania. New Zealand and Australia, the most know countries of the continent in the world, have similar flags:

Flag of New Zealand                           Flag of Australia

Both have a blue bottom, the Southern Cross constellation and the flag of the United Kindom, their colonizer, on the superior left side of the flag.

Flag of the United Kingdom

The flag of the UK is also on the corner of a lot of British dependences, and in four national flags, that even independent, the countries decided to maintain the British flag in their flag. See below two more nations that have the British flag on the left superior corner of the flag:

Flag of Fiji                                  Flag of Tuvalu

See below flags of British dependences that have the flag of the United Kingdom on the superior left side of their flags:

 In North America:

Flag of Bermuda

In South America:

Flag of the Falkland Islands       Flag of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands

In Central America:

Flag of the Cayman Islands      Flag of the Turks and Caicos Islands

Flag of Anguilla

Flag of Montserrat              Flag of the British Virgin Islands

In Africa:

Flag of Saint Helena                  Flag of Tristan da Cunha

Flag of Ascension Island

In Asia:

Flag of the British Indian Ocean Territory

In Antarctica:

Flag of the British Antarctic Territory

In Oceania:

Flag of the Pitcairn Islands

There are also British flags on the superior left side of territories of former British colonies :

In 3 provinces of Canada:

Flag of Manitoba                              Flag of Ontario

Flag of British Columbia
(In this case, not just on the superior left side but the entire superior part of the flag)

In 6 states and territories of Australia:

Flag of Queensland                                   Flag of Victoria

Flag of Tasmania                             Flag of South New Wales

Flag of Southern Australia                 Flag of Southern Australia

In the American state of Hawaii:

Flag of Hawaii

In 2 New Zealander dependences:

    Niue                                                 Cook Islands

I could even mention more exemples, because these are current flags, soon I will publish more countries that had the British flag on the superior left side of their flag, but today do not have anymore:

And to do finish the post, for who ended up with a curiosity. Both New Zealender dependences above, maintain the British flag because the are still part of New Zealand and maintain the exemple of the country of putting the flag of the former colonizer on the superior left side of their flag, but what if one of them becomes independent and wants to put the New Zealand flag on the superior left side of the flag? How would it be?

Here we have a tip, the Samoan flag, a former New Zealand conlony that decided to put the image of the Southern Cross on the superior left side of the flag, a symbol of New Zealand:

Flag of New Zealand                                    Flag of Samoa

There was a little difference in the colours and the quantity of stars, but if the flags of Niue and British Columbia could be changed, why not to adapt the Samoan flag? And who wants to back a little above and compare the Samoan flag with the flag of Bermuda.
